Utah - July 2, 2021 - Day 1

I travel to Salt Lake often. And I'm always struck by the difference between O'Hare and the Salt Lake airport.

O'Hare is a zoo, poorly managed and difficult to navigate. I pity people who travel to O'Hare from out of town, as it is not well-marked and is a maze. And, of course, it is Chicago so nothing works.  Today, it was especially congested.

Salt Lake, on the other hand, is very orderly.

Salt Lake City is the seat of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ("LDS" or "Mormon"). As part of their education, LDS kids typically go on a mission trip. Whenever I'm in SLC, I see the freshly scrubbed, wholesome looking kids either leaving for their mission trip, or returning. It is a time of tremendous joy and celebration for the kids and their families. You can tell the kids in their dark trousers, white shirts and black name tags. And you can identify their families because of the outward happiness:

I am meeting Magellan and Buttercup at a down-home hotel, "Little America." It just happens to have the best coffee shop of any place I've ever been.

In the morning, I meet my Harley, and it's off to Dinosaur National Park.
