Circle Trip - July 1, 2020 - Day 5

Day 5 - Copper Harbor

Welcome to Copper Harbor

The morning presented another sunny and hot beautiful day.

This area of the world is not only rich in timber, but in minerals as well. We traveled around the Copper Harbor area which had a heavy concentration of mines - which appear to all be gone. And the towns reflect that. They are old, dumpy, post-industrial rust-belt towns. But rather than dwelling on the towns in decline, we traveled the roads through the forests.

The Lake Superior shore alternated between beach and hardscrabble rock.

The winters here are brutal. It takes a lot to move the snow.

The claim is that a great deal of shipping moves through this area still today.

Buttercup returning from walkabout after checking on the beach.

Telecommunications:

Magellan and Buttercup are following me much more closely than in the past. I know my music annoyed them, which is why they "social distanced" by hanging-back. But with a headset, they can't hear my good music. I am thinking the headset was a ruse to quiet my surround sound stereo.

But with every yin, there is a yang. I can speak with them over the CB radio. But I have a hard time understanding them. I am thinking they are speaking in "dialect," a Southern patois that no yankee could ever understand. At least, that is my story.

Taps:

It was hot today - except when it starting raining during dinner, and we had to drive to the hotel in a downpour. Hopefully, that is the last of the rain.

We drove 342 miles today. It looks to be warm and sunny again tomorrow.
