The Road to Macchu Pichu

Welcome to Peru!

Peru is at high altitude, and they suggest coca in some form - leaf or tea - to abate the effects of altitude. It didn't help.

Surprisingly, Peru is a foodie paradise. The food was fantastic, and they take it very seriously. I wasn't too thrilled with the guinea pig - a local delicacy.

Central Cusco is a world heritage site. This is a view looking down to the plaza in Cusco.

Cusco - on the way to the train station for the trip to Macchu Pichu.

The coca leaf ceremony at the train station.

You can't drive to Aquas Calientes - the town were MP is located, as there are no roads going through. You can hike four days up the mountain and through the bush, or you can take a train. We took a train - the one which serves you cocktails. We liked this option much better.
